Sampan has been around for quite awhile, but it doesn't seem to get the recognition it deserves. As a non-buffet Chinese restaurant, Sampan offers a wide variety of familiar Chinese dishes with its own stamp on each. I absolutely adore the lady that is usually there as hostess and waitress. She's the sweetest person you could ever hope to meet.
As far as the food, I've never really had anything bad. The wontons in spicy sesame sauce are my favorite appetizer, and the scallion chicken, Tangy and spicy beef, and lo mein are my favorite dishes. This past time I found a review for the Foo Keen Rice, and I gave it a whirl. I was not disappointed.
If you haven't already, give Sampan a shot. You'll be glad you did. -

Not too bad in terms of Chinese food but the without a doubt you come here for the value. You can get a lot of food for very cheap. I got the lo mein...it was okay, definitely not breaking any records. It was surprising how fast they managed to get out all of our dishes- even to a point of being a bit concerning seeing as there were so few people in the restaurant (definitely not made fresh).
I'm not sure how often I plan on frequenting Sampan but I will say that it was "okay" just not anything for me to make a special trip out for. -

Go here if you love Chinese food for cheap, especially during lunch. I had the cashew nut chicken lunch that came with a starter side egg roll. Just look at how much food I got! It was such a big serving and lasted me 2 meals.
I've also done family style dinner with friends. 10 of us took up one large circular table with a lazy Susan turntable and we ordered a lot of food. Some of our favorites were the beef chow fun, special fried rice, eggplant, and string bean delight. It was super useful that the menu had pictures. -

OK, I have always been a person that is willing to change my opinion if I see other things than i saw the first time around. Such is the case with Sampan Chinese Restaurant. My first visit was not very pleasant, but I refused to give up on them. I'm glad that i didn't.
Again the service was nice and attentive but not hovering. We stated with an egg roll and spring rolls. They were good, and I really liked the hot mustard.
Then we split 2 dishes: fire cracker shrimp and sesame beef. The star of the night were the shrimp. It was a nice sweet and sour and spicy combination. The sesame beef was chunks of beef lightly battered and fried served with a nice dark sauce.
Together the food was pretty good.
Im glad because I really want a good Chinese place in the area that you can go into and sit and enjoy your meal. We have enough takeout places. -

I've been searching Winston for great Chinese takeout for 3 years and Sampan is the closest thing I've found. While it's not great, it's pretty good. Inexpensive, large portions, and pretty tasty. Disclaimer: I base this review on the general tso's and sesame chicken, rather than more authentic dishes.
